Abubakar Usman who runs the eponymous political blog Abusidiqu.com, has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after two directors in the federal civil service signed his bail bond.
Formalities to secure his release were underway at the time of filing this.
Mr Usman was arrested, commando style in his home on Monday by gun-totting EFCC operatives who cited an ambiguous cyber-stalking infraction as his offence. The blogger had run a story which alleged corruption and high-handedness on the part of EFCC chairman Ibrahim Magu.
His arrest had sparked media outrage locally and internationally, with the hashtag #FreeAbusidiq made to trend for two days on end by Twitter users.
Mr. Usman who hails from Kogi State, was part of the campaign structure which galvanized electoral votes for president Muhammadu Buhari in 2015. He’s also a media volunteer within the Buhari presidency.
